  • Why should I buy beef direct from a cattle ranch?
You are supporting a local business that is committed to providing top quality beef directly to consumers. We are stewards of the land that the cattle are raised on. Sustaining the environment and maintaining biodiversity is imperative to our business. We produce our own top quality feed so that we can ensure the cattle receive the best nutrition possible, chemical and pesticide free. By purchasing beef direct from a cattle ranch you are supporting humane farming and ranching practices. We aren't in the business of mass production. We are a small operation that prides itself on quality beef and sustainable practices.
  • How do I know I am getting top quality beef?
We have learned from the best. As a fourth generation ranching family we pride ourselves on the knowledge of generations before us when it comes to cattle ranching. When it comes to farming we use the most updated technology and research to grow the best quality feed in an efficient and sustainable way.
  • What is the difference between grass fed and grain fed beef?
All cattle are grass-fed. Whether they graze or are fed forage. "100% grass fed beef" does not mean that cattle were free to graze all year on rolling pastures of lush grass. In Alberta, winter is long and cold. Our cattle are fed a daily ration of hay, forage and grain along with vitamins and mineral supplements for optimum health throughout the winter months. We use excessive amounts of straw for bedding to ensure that winter is comfortable. We believe this is the humane way to raise cattle. Grass fed, grain finished beef has more natural fat marbling which makes for more tender and flavourful beef. It is by no means less ethically raised. If you choose "100% grass fed beef" in a restaurant it is likely being cooked in excessive amounts of butter or cooking oil to achieve the same tenderness and moisture that is typical of grain finished beef. Would you rather your beef is naturally flavoured with the fat from the beef or with butter or cooking oil? We prefer beef that tastes like beef.
  • Is your cattle business "sustainable"?"
According to the dictionary sustainbility is "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs". Stating that we are a fourth generation ranching family should sum up our view on how important it is to sustain the biodiversity, water, soil and land that has supported the ranch for four generations and working on a fifth. If the land doesn't thrive, the ranch doesn't survive. Cattle ranching is a sustainable practice. At the same time that we produce crops and graze cattle we are supporting the delicate balance of nature. For generations the ranch has proven to be an ideal home for elk, deer, coyotes, cougars, bear, ducks, geese and hundreds of other species. We are happy to provide a home for all of the wildlife on the ranch. Sustainably.
  • Why is Ranchland Ground Beef better than what I could buy at the grocery store?
Ranchland Ground Beef is made from quality cuts of meat. It is the equivalent to what you could purchase at the store if you were to select extra lean, ground round or ground chuck. You would pay a premium for these very specific types of ground beef. We choose to produce ground beef with these cuts to ensure that it is lean and premium quality. Prime ground beef for the same price as regular beef at the grocery store. Try it! You won't be dissapointed.
  • How do I get my order?
We want it to be convenient for you to support local. We know you are busy and convenience is key to earning your business. If you live within Calgary, Edmonton or Red Deer (or immediately surrounding areas) and purchase over $200 of Ranchland Beef we will deliver to your doorstep. Deliveries are every Saturday and we will make sure to connect with you so the beef goes directly from our freezer to yours. If you live within Red Deer or you are in the area you are welcome to come by and pick up your order at your convenience.
  • What steps do you take to ensure food safety?
We are an Alberta Health Service approved Food Handling Facility. Our storage location exceeds requirements for food storage. The beef is handled only by top quality and certified butchers. The beef is inspected and approved for public sale. Upon delivery the beef is frozen and packaged for safety. We communicate with our consumers to ensure that it goes from our freezer to yours.
